Kickoff with Tailgate Party Classics
Tailgating isnβt just about the gameβitβs about the food, the tailgate party games, and the overall vibe. Start with a hot dog platter. Itβs a no-brainer. Load up with a variety of toppings so everyone can make their perfect dog. Think ketchup, mustard, relish, onions, chili, and cheese. Want to take it up a notch? Add some bacon bits, jalapeΓ±os, and pickles for a gourmet twist.
Next, letβs talk about chili in a Fritos bag. Itβs easy, fun, and totally portable. Just open a bag of Fritos, scoop in some hot chili, and top with cheese, sour cream, and maybe even some green onions. Best part? Itβs one less dish to clean up.
And, donβt forget about football recipes crock pot dishes. Think about slow-cooked pulled pork or beef, Mississippi pot roast sandwiches, perfect for piling onto buns or even just eating with a fork. Crock pots are your secret weapon for a fall partyβyou can set it, forget it, and focus on the game.
I love this idea because itβs less to buy (no bowls) and delicious! You could also add cute containers of grated cheese, sour cream, jalapeΓ±os or whatever you like with your chili.
I also love to to take an inexpensive store-bought snack and elevate it in some way. When I put peanuts in these cute lunch snacks friends always grab a bag with a smile on their face.
Sweeten the Deal with Tailgate Party Desserts
Now, letβs get into tailgate party desserts. Youβve got your savory bases covered, but donβt forget about the sweets. Mini pie ideas are perfect for tailgates. Theyβre portable, easy to eat, and you can offer a varietyβapple, cherry, pecan. Everyone gets their own little pie, no cutting or plates needed.
Another sweet option is dessert dip. Think cookie dough dip or brownie batter dip, served with graham crackers or fruit. Itβs simple, shareable, and a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.
For something thatβs both sweet and refreshing, bring in some fruit kabobs. Skewer some strawberries, pineapple, and grapes for an easy, handheld treat. You can even drizzle them with chocolate or honey for extra indulgence.
Game-Changing Tailgate Party Games
Tailgate food is just one part of the equation. Letβs mix in some tailgate party ideas that keep the energy up between plays.
First, set up a snack stadium. Itβs easier than it sounds. Arrange chips, dips, veggies, and more in a football field layout. Use guacamole for the field, salsa for the end zones, and chips as the stands. Itβs a visual touchdown.
For something interactive, have a DIY nacho bar. Lay out tortilla chips and all the toppingsβcheese, salsa, beans, jalapeΓ±os, and more. Let your guests get creative with their nacho creations. Itβs a fun way to keep people engaged and snacking at the same time.
Of course, no tailgate is complete without some tailgate party games. Cornhole is a classic, and itβs easy to set up in any parking lot or backyard. For something different, try a football toss game. Itβs simpleβjust a target and a football, but itβs endlessly entertaining, especially as the competition heats up.

Look how cute the mix is served in waffle cones. Individual servings and no clean up. I propped them up in this crate on amazon . I use it for so many things! I took off the beer letters to make it universal. If you donβt want to use waffle cones, you could make paper cones out of your teamβs colors, or your decor colors. I filled in with apples and sage because it's what I had on hand. But you could fill in with popcorn candy or whatever makes your heart sing.

Tailgate Football Apple Hand Pie Recipe
Football Apple Hand Pies
Ingredients
- 21 ounces apple pie filling, store-bought or homemade below (you wonβt need it all)
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 package pie crusts (4 crusts), I use Pillsbury
- 1 egg
- Store-bought icing in a tube for laces (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425Β°F.
- Chop apple pie filling into small pieces and mix with cinnamon.
- Roll out the pie dough to β -inch thick and cut the dough into12 football shapes.
- Add 1- 2 tablespoon apple pie filling to 6 of the footballs. Don't over stuff.
- Brush egg wash around the edges and top with the remaining 6 football shapes. Use a fork to crimp the edges firmly together. Make two slits on the top of the pie.
- Brush with tegg wash and bake for 12 minutes or until golden brown.
- After cooled, pipe on laces with icing. I used store-bought icing.
Notes
- Hand pies can be baked in an air fryer for 8-10 minutes at 350Β°F. Any flavor of pie filling may be substituted.
- You can shape the hand pies in whatever shape you want. I used a football shape. You can also use a round cookie cutter. I donβt suggest anything smaller than 3 inches in diameter because you canβt fit enough filling in a pie that small. You can also shape into rectangles. Bake time will be more or less depending on sizeβ just bake until crust is golden brown. Use the same oven temperature.
- Hand pies can be made 2 days in advance and stored two days at room temperature. Refrigerate after that. Reheat in the oven or air fryer.
