The Difference Between Gorgonzola and Blue Cheese
Gorgonzola and blue cheese are both blue-veined cheeses, but they have distinct differences. Gorgonzola, originating from Italy, is typically creamier and milder with a slightly sweet undertone. It can range from soft and buttery to firm, depending on its age. Blue cheese, on the other hand, is a broader category that includes varieties like Roquefort and Stilton. It tends to have a stronger, more pungent flavor with sharper, saltier notes. The specific molds used also give Gorgonzola its milder, less aggressive tang compared to other blue cheeses.
